Orange County Firefighter Kevin Skinner Dies of Heart Attack While Battling Laguna Niguel House Fire

In a tragic incident, Kevin Skinner, a firefighter with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), suffered a fatal heart attack while working to extinguish a house fire in Laguna Niguel on Friday, January 5, 2025. The fire broke out shortly after 12:30 PM at the residence located on Calle De La Reina. OCFA personnel responded to the emergency call, and upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke and flames engulfing the building. As firefighters were making progress in suppression efforts, Skinner, aged 42, collapsed on the scene and was immediately transported to a nearby medical facility. Despite resuscitation attempts, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

OCFA Chief Brian Fennessy issued a heartfelt statement following the tragedy, stating, “Kevin Skinner was an exceptional firefighter and a beloved member of our community. His dedication to service and commitment to his fellow citizens will never be forgotten. Skinner joined OCFA in 2003 and had served for over 20 years in various capacities. He was known for his exceptional skill and bravery in the line of duty. Fire officials stated that the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, and they will provide updates as more information becomes available.
