Several school districts in the Washington D.C. area have announced delays due to inclement weather conditions expected on Wednesday. The National Weather Service has warned of significant cold temperatures and icy conditions that could impact travel and safety during the morning hours. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) stated that due to forecasted cold temperatures and wind chill, classes will start two hours late. Similarly, Prince George’s County Public Schools also confirmed a delay, stressing the importance of keeping students safe during such weather. Howard County Public Schools (HCPSS) announced a two-hour delay as well, citing the same weather concerns. In a statement, HCPSS said, “The safety of our students is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor the weather conditions closely.” Additionally, numerous private schools in the area have also opted for delayed openings. The D.C. area is not alone in experiencing these delays, as inclement weather has been reported across various parts of Maryland, with Baltimore City schools also announcing delays due to dangerously cold conditions. Transitioning into January, officials urge both students and parents to prepare for potential changes in school schedules due to severe winter weather forecasts.
