Covered California Reports Record Enrollment Ahead of 2025 Open Enrollment Deadline

Covered California, the state’s health insurance marketplace, has announced that it has reached a record enrollment of over 1.7 million residents, marking a significant milestone in providing essential health coverage to its citizens. This record high comes just ahead of the looming 2025 open enrollment deadline, set to begin on November 1, 2024, and concluding on January 31, 2025. Gary E. Cohen, the Executive Director of Covered California, stated, ‘This record enrollment is a testament to the importance of affordable health care for Californians, particularly as we approach the new enrollment period.’ The agency emphasizes that individuals and families have until December 31, 2024, to apply for coverage, making it crucial for those without existing insurance to act quickly. Enrollment has surged due to a significant number of new applicants seeking coverage, alongside a continued expansion of eligibility for subsidies. Last year, nearly 90% of enrollees received financial assistance to help pay for their health insurance. Covered California is actively promoting the enrollment period through various campaigns, highlighting the benefits of obtaining health insurance, especially in light of rising medical costs. They are also urging individuals to review their options as plans may differ significantly in price and coverage, which can greatly affect healthcare access. ‘We strongly encourage everyone to check their coverage options and compare plans to find the best fit for their healthcare needs,’ said Cohen. As the deadline approaches, Covered California plans to increase outreach efforts via community organizations and digital platforms to ensure that as many residents as possible can benefit from available healthcare options.
