A series of winter storms have significantly impacted Atlanta and North Georgia, accumulating preliminary snowfall totals ranging from 1 to 4 inches in various areas. The National Weather Service reported that northeastern Georgia, particularly in the mountains, could witness totals near 6 inches. The storm resulted in over 40,000 power outages across Georgia as ice and strong winds wreaked havoc on utility lines. Georgia Power crews are actively addressing the outages, with restoration in progress. Many residents were left without power during harsh weather conditions, including temperatures dropping into the teens. Additionally, the inclement weather led to widespread flight delays and cancellations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which reported more than 300 flight cancellations and over 100 delays as of Monday afternoon. The airport advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. Georgia’s Department of Transportation also cautioned travelers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary due to hazardous driving conditions, especially on elevated surfaces. This combined effect of snow, ice, and wind presented significant challenges for local infrastructure and public safety, leaving many Georgians on high alert during the ongoing winter weather.
