The downtime affected both Android and iOS users, with many taking to social media to express their grievances. Affected users reported that the app showed error messages including ‘Unable to connect’ and ‘Couldn’t send message.’ According to Downdetector, which tracks service outages, the peak of the issues was noted with over 4,500 reports from users in the US and around 2,000 in the UK. Many users expressed their discontent on platforms like Twitter, with tweets such as, ‘Is anyone else’s WhatsApp down?’ and ‘Can’t send messages, this is so frustrating!’ These connectivity issues follow prior reports of WhatsApp outages that have also impacted users at different times throughout this year. Meta has yet to issue a detailed response or confirmation regarding the cause of the current outage, but users are anxiously waiting for a resolution. The app has historically been an essential tool for communication worldwide, making any outages particularly disruptive.
