Vanderbilt Community Honors Alumna Alyssa Lokits with Nonprofit and Memorial Events

The Vanderbilt University community is mourning the loss of alumna Alyssa Lokits, who tragically lost her life in September 2023. In her honor, a nonprofit organization has been established and several memorial events are being held to pay tribute to her legacy. According to her family, Alyssa was not only a beloved daughter and sister but also an inspiration to her peers and community. The Alyssa Lokits Foundation aims to continue her passion for community service and mental health awareness, providing support and resources to those in need. “Alyssa had a light that shone brightly, and her spirit continues to inspire us all,” said her mother, Karen Lokits. Friends, family, and fellow Vanderbilt alumni came together on December 19, 2024, for a candlelight vigil on campus, celebrating her life and contributions to the community. The event was filled with touching stories, music, and a poignant call to action for others to engage in community service. A notable highlight was a performance by local musicians who have pledged to support the nonprofit through future events. “We want to make sure Alyssa’s memory lives on through the work we do, helping others and fostering kindness in our community,” said one of her close friends. The nonprofit will also organize educational workshops focused on mental health issues, aiming to tackle stigma and provide helpful resources. In addition to these efforts, the Nashville-based organization has introduced a scholarship in Alyssa’s name to support students pursuing careers in mental health. As the community mourns her loss, the establishment of these initiatives embodies the essence of what Alyssa stood for during her life.
