Upcoming Total Lunar Eclipse: What to Expect in March 2025

On March 14, 2025, a total lunar eclipse is set to occur, creating a stunning spectacle in the night sky, captivating stargazers and astronomy enthusiasts alike. During this event, a shadow from the Earth will entirely cover the Moon, giving it a reddish hue, commonly referred to as a ‘blood moon.’ This total lunar eclipse will be visible in various regions, with the best views anticipated across North America, parts of South America, Europe, and Africa. According to NASA’s lunar eclipse expert, ‘A total lunar eclipse is one of nature’s most captivating phenomena. The color change is due to Rayleigh scattering of sunlight through the Earth’s atmosphere, which occurs when the Earth is directly between the Sun and the Moon.’ The eclipse itself will last approximately 3 hours, with totality spanning nearly 1 hour and 45 minutes. Upcoming lunar eclipses are key astronomical events, and this particular one is being highly anticipated. The last total lunar eclipse before this was on May 15-16, 2022, and many are looking forward to witnessing the next stunning display in 2025.
