Seven Tourists Hospitalized in Fiji Due to Suspected Alcohol Poisoning

Seven tourists have been hospitalized in Fiji after experiencing severe symptoms believed to be associated with alcohol poisoning. Among the affected individuals, six are Australian residents and one is from New Zealand. The tourists were staying at a resort on the Coral Coast, where they reportedly fell ill after consuming cocktails. Medical authorities have confirmed that the patients exhibited neurological symptoms, including dizziness and loss of consciousness. One of the tourists admitted to the hospital, who has not been publicly identified, stated, ‘It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. I thought I was going to die.’ The Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Fiji has launched an investigation into the incident and the cocktail drinks served at the resort. The resort management claimed to be cooperating fully with health officials, assuring that all safety measures regarding food and drink preparation are in place. The recent incident has raised concerns about the safety of alcoholic beverages in tourist areas, and authorities are urging tourists to exercise caution regarding their consumption. The health authorities are also conducting tests to determine the cause of the illnesses, including checking for possible contamination in the cocktails consumed. The Australian government has been notified and is providing assistance to the affected tourists. Meanwhile, the resort continues to receive guests but is under scrutiny. ‘We take this matter very seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety of our guests,’ said the resort spokesperson.
