Search Underway for Missing Plane in Alaska with 10 People Onboard

Rescue operations are in full swing in Alaska following the disappearance of a Cessna 208B Caravan aircraft operated by Bering Air. The plane was reported missing in rugged terrain near the village of Akutan, situated on the Aleutian Islands, at approximately 3:10 p.m. local time on Monday. The aircraft was carrying ten individuals at the time of its disappearance, including two crew members. The search was launched after the plane failed to arrive at its scheduled destination of Unalaska. US Coast Guard spokespeople indicated that the flight had left from the town of Cold Bay and was en route over the Bering Sea. As of Tuesday morning, search and rescue teams were utilizing helicopter and fixed-wing resources to scour the area where the aircraft was last seen. The Coast Guard confirmed last night that they were coordinating their efforts with local search and rescue teams. “We are doing everything we can to locate the aircraft and its passengers,” said Lieutenant Commander Matthew McClellan of the Coast Guard. Conditions on the ground have been reported as difficult, with adverse weather complicating search efforts. The families of those on board have been informed, and support is being provided as the search continues. Authorities have emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that every minute counts in ensuring the safety of those missing.
