As winter weather impacts the Charlotte and Triad areas, a series of school closures and delays have been announced for January 22, 2025. In the Charlotte region, multiple school districts, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), have opted for remote learning in light of predictions of inclement weather. CMS stated that all classes will be held remotely on January 22. Other districts making similar announcements include Gaston County Schools, which will also conduct remote learning on that day. Iredell-Statesville Schools have chosen to delay the start of their classes by two hours on January 22.
Meanwhile, the Triad area, particularly in North Carolina, is seeing closures as well. While some schools will remain closed on the same day, others will operate under a delay. For instance, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools confirmed that while they initially planned to open, operational adjustments may be necessary depending on conditions. In total, 15 school districts across North Carolina have reported closures or shifts to remote learning caused by potential adverse weather conditions such as snow or freezing rain, which may affect travel safety.
Superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Earnest Winston, mentioned, “We are prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. Given the projected weather conditions, going remote is the most responsible decision we can make.”
In Virginia, Montgomery County announced that all schools will be closed on January 22, joining the ranks of North Carolina schools in responding to the weather threat. Local councils have urged families to stay updated with the latest announcements from their respective school districts to manage expectations about school schedules during this weather crisis.
