Old Dominion University (ODU) Police are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred off-campus and near the university’s premises on Saturday evening. The shooting took place in the 700 block of 43rd Street. According to ODU officials, one individual sustained injuries related to the incident but has since been reported in stable condition. The authorities believe this incident is not related to an active shooter situation. The ODU Police have been collaborating with the Norfolk Police Department in their investigation and have urged anyone with information pertaining to the shooting to come forward to assist them. ODU’s Assistant Chief of Police, Lieutenant H.M. Hembree, reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and staff, stating, “The safety and security of our university community is our top priority. We are working diligently to investigate this situation.” As investigations continue, ODU has provided counselors and support services for students who may need assistance as a result of the incident. The university plans to keep the community updated with any new information as it becomes available.
