North Texas School Districts Cancel Classes Amid Snow and Wintry Mix

North Texas is bracing for severe winter weather as several school districts, including Dallas Independent School District (DISD) and Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD), have announced closures for Monday, January 8, 2025. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory forecasting mixed precipitation, including snow and sleet, with total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. The DISD has stated, ‘Our top priority is the safety of our students and staff. We encourage families to stay informed and safe during this weather event.’ Similarly, FWISD released a statement saying, ‘With the potential for hazardous travel conditions, we feel it is best to close schools and keep our students at home.’ Other districts, including Irving ISD and Mesquite ISD, have also decided to follow suit. This weather system is expected to cause disruptions across travel routes and emergency services have been advised to prepare for the adverse effects of the storm.
