MSC Cruises Unveils Private Island Retreat Built from Dredging Site

MSC Cruises has officially opened its new private island retreat, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, transforming a former dredging site into a stunning tropical destination. Located in the Bahamas, the island features pristine beaches, luxurious accommodations, and a variety of activities for cruise guests. According to MSC Cruises, this development highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. CEO Gianni Onorato emphasized, ‘We have taken a very degraded area and turned it into a sanctuary for marine life.’ The transformation involved extensive efforts, including the planting of thousands of plants, to restore the ecosystem. Ocean Cay is intended to offer an exclusive experience for MSC guests, with many onboard features such as a beach club and an ocean-side theater. The island can host up to 15,000 guests a day, offering a slew of activities including snorkeling, kayaking, and nightly entertainment. MSC Cruises is investing heavily in enhancing guest experience, with Onorato stating, ‘This island represents a new chapter for us and we are proud to be able to share it with our guests.’ Ocean Cay is part of a broader effort by MSC to expand its reach in the cruise industry and offer unique destinations to ardent travelers.
