Military Aircraft Crashes into San Diego Bay, Pilots Rescued

In a dramatic incident on Tuesday, a military fighter jet crashed into San Diego Bay near Shelter Island. The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. as the aircraft was experiencing difficulties, according to the U.S. Navy officials. Two pilots were aboard the F/A-18 Hornet and successfully ejected from the aircraft before it plunged into the water. They were later rescued by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and assessed for injuries, fortunately reporting that they suffered no serious harm. Captain Wes McGee from the U.S. Navy stated, ‘The pilots did everything right and were able to get out safely.’ Eyewitnesses reported seeing the jet flying low before it lost control. The incident prompted a swift response with multiple rescue teams on-site, including the Coast Guard. U.S. Navy’s investigation team is currently looking into the cause of the crash, while the aircraft sank in approximately 200 feet of water. Heather O’Hara, a local resident, described her shock: ‘I’ve lived here so long and never seen anything like this. It was terrifying but also kind of incredible that they got out.’ Authorities urged boaters to avoid the area as recovery efforts begin.
