LSU Wide Receiver Kyren Lacy Facing Charges in Fatal Car Crash

Louisiana State University wide receiver Kyren Lacy has been charged with negligent homicide and hit-and-run following a fatal car crash that took place on October 5, 2023. The crash resulted in the death of a 29-year-old man named Matthew Schulz, whose vehicle was struck by Lacy’s car after he allegedly failed to stop at a red light. According to the Louisiana State Police, Lacy’s 2021 Dodge Charger collided with Schulz’s vehicle around 10:30 PM at the intersection of Burbank Drive and West Lee Drive in Baton Rouge. The impact was so severe that Schulz was pronounced dead at the scene. Eyewitness reports suggest that Lacy fled the scene of the accident, ultimately leading to his charges. In a statement regarding the incident, LSU’s Athletic Department expressed their commitment to cooperating with law enforcement and emphasized that they would uphold the values of their athletic programs. Coach Brian Kelly stated, ‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and the impact this incident has had on many families.’ Lacy, a sophomore and transfer from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, had previously made headlines as one of the promising talents in college football. His playing future is uncertain following these developments, and LSU is currently reviewing the situation critically.
