Leonard Hamilton to Resign as Florida State Men’s Basketball Coach After Season

Leonard Hamilton, Florida State’s renowned men’s basketball coach, has announced he will step down at the conclusion of the current season. Hamilton, who has a remarkable legacy as the school’s winningest coach with 396 victories, confirmed that he plans to make the official announcement after the last game of the season. The 75-year-old coach has been with Florida State since 2002 and has led the program to unprecedented heights, including 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, two ACC regular-season championships, and a remarkable run to the Elite Eight in 2018. Hamilton expressed gratitude towards the Florida State community, stating, ‘I have been honored to coach at Florida State for more than two decades, and I am proud of our accomplishments. I am grateful for the support I have received from our players, staff, and fans over the years.’ Hamilton’s decision comes amid a challenging season for the Seminoles, who have struggled with injuries and are currently at the bottom of the ACC standings. Athletic Director Michael Alford praised Hamilton’s contributions, emphasizing his impact on student-athletes and the program’s culture. Hamilton’s departure marks the end of an era in Florida State basketball, as he has significantly shaped the program into a competitive force in college basketball. The search for his successor will commence shortly after the season concludes, with many looking forward to the future of Florida State basketball.
