In a precautionary measure due to the ongoing Pacific Palisades fire, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has decided to close specific schools this Wednesday. The closures come as strong winds increase the fire risk and influence air quality across the area. Schools that will remain closed include Pacific Palisades Elementary, Paul Revere Middle School, and Palisades Charter High School. LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho emphasized that the safety of students and staff is the district’s top priority, stating, ‘Our decisions are made with the utmost care for the wellbeing of our community.’ Meanwhile, Pasadena Unified School District has enacted safety measures in response to high winds, advising parents to keep a close watch on their children’s safety as gusts are expected to reach up to 50 mph. Schools are remaining open but will assess developments continuously. Furthermore, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has confirmed that it plans to open on Wednesday, but Malibu schools will be closed as a precaution. Superintendent Ben Drati mentioned, ‘While we strive to maintain normalcy, we are also committed to ensuring the safety of our students.’ These actions reflect the institutions’ commitment to safeguarding their communities amidst unpredictable environmental challenges.
