As temperatures drop across Florida, Hillsborough County has activated its cold weather shelters for vulnerable populations on the nights of Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3, 2024. The cold weather shelter locations include the First Baptist Church of Greater Tampa and Tampa Bay Christian Academy, among others. In Brevard County, cold weather shelters will also open during the frigid nights, providing crucial support for homeless individuals and families needing shelter. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to fall into the low 40s, prompting officials to take swift measures to protect those without adequate housing. A local man experiencing homelessness shared his perspective, stating, ‘Have you ever been to hell? This is what it feels like in winter months.’ The County encourages those in need to seek assistance at the shelters, emphasizing that no one should have to face the harsh cold alone.
