The FBI has arrested a 34-year-old woman in connection with the death of a Border Patrol agent in Vermont. The woman, identified as Anna C. Jurgens, was detained on federal charges of using a firearm in a crime of violence and aiding and abetting. This arrest is linked to the murder of Border Patrol agent Nicholas P. Kelley, 35, who was killed in 2022 during a confrontation with armed assailants. According to the authorities, Jurgens was instrumental in providing information and assistance to the individuals accused of Kelley’s murder.
In a related case, two suspects, identified as Luis A. Garcia and Juan Carlos Salgado, have been charged in the shooting of Agent Kelley. They were found to have an extensive arsenal of weapons, including rifles and handguns, which were reportedly stolen from different locations. The incidents connected to these individuals have raised significant concern regarding the increase in violence against Border Patrol agents.
The U.S. Border Patrol Chief, Raúl Ortiz, stated, “We cannot allow these heinous crimes to go unpunished. We stand by our agents and will pursue total justice for their sacrifices.” Agent Kelley was described as a devoted professional who left behind a family and a community that mourns his loss deeply. The ongoing investigation highlights not only the dangers faced by Border Patrol agents but also the need for enhanced measures to ensure their safety in the line of duty.
