Brigham Young University (BYU) students have taken center stage in celebrating their diverse cultures through the ‘Fiesta and Luau’ events held during the Alamo Bowl festivities. The gatherings aimed at instilling a sense of joy and pride as participants shared their heritage, traditions, and stories. “It’s about bringing our cultures together and showing the beauty of our traditions,” said BYU student and event organizer Maria Garcia. In addition to these celebrations, BYU is engaging in community outreach with a Cougs Care service project during the Valero Alamo Bowl tailgate party, which is set to take place on January 1, 2024. This initiative aims to give back to the community through various service activities, highlighting the importance of service among BYU alumni and students. Alumni Association President, John Smith emphasized the significance of community involvement, stating, “As Cougars, we believe it’s crucial to make a positive impact wherever we go.” Additionally, the BYU community is partnering with local organizations for a donation drive to support those in need during the holiday season. This combination of cultural celebration and community service showcases the university’s commitment to enriching both students’ experiences and the lives of residents in the San Antonio area.
