Barclays Bank Faces Major IT Glitch, Customers Locked Out for Almost 24 Hours

Barclays Bank encountered significant technological issues that locked customers out of their online banking and mobile app for nearly 24 hours, causing widespread frustration and disruption. The glitch began on January 30, 2025, when customers reported difficulties accessing their accounts through both online and mobile platforms. Affected individuals expressed their concerns, with one Barclays customer stating, ‘I couldn’t pay my bills or access my funds. This has been incredibly frustrating.’
The bank acknowledged the problem through a statement on social media, stating that their IT teams were working diligently to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Despite their efforts, some customers remained locked out until late on January 31, 2025. Many took to social media to voice their frustrations, with hashtags like #BarclaysFailed trending on Twitter. This incident raised concerns about the bank’s reliance on technology and its ability to serve its clients during critical moments.
In a follow-up statement, a Barclays spokesperson said, ‘We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this incident has caused to our customers.
