Backcountry Avalanche Warning Issued for Southcentral Alaska

Officials have issued a backcountry avalanche warning for Southcentral Alaska as conditions across the region have become increasingly dangerous. The warning spans several areas, including Chugach and Kenai Mountains, where heavy snowfall and high winds have created unstable snowpack. The Alaska Avalanche Center reported that recent weather patterns have contributed to a significant increase in avalanche risks, particularly on slopes greater than 30 degrees. Citing the heightened danger, officials advise outdoor enthusiasts to exercise caution and avoid backcountry travel until conditions improve. ‘This is a critical time for safety in the high alpine areas, and we are urging everyone to stay informed and be aware of the risks involved,’ stated forecaster Chris Hilley. As the weekend approaches, local skiers and snowboarders are especially encouraged to adhere to warnings and make safety a priority. The center will continue to monitor conditions and publish updates as necessary to keep the community informed of any changes in avalanche activity.
