Appalachian State University has officially announced the hiring of Dowell Loggains as its new head football coach. Loggains, who served as the offensive coordinator at the University of South Carolina, expressed excitement about his new role. ‘I’m honored to be the head coach at Appalachian State,’ Loggains said during a press conference. He emphasized his goal of building upon the Mountaineers’ historical successes and inspiring student-athletes on and off the field. Loggains will succeed Shawn Clark, who led the team over the past three seasons, with a record of 21-20. The decision to hire Loggains comes as Appalachian State aims to strengthen its competitive edge in the Sun Belt Conference. Athletic Director Doug Gillin noted Loggains’ proven track record in developing players and creating effective game plans. ‘We believe his experience and vision align perfectly with our department’s goals,’ Gillin stated. Loggains previously held coaching positions at various colleges and in the NFL, bringing a wealth of experience to the program. He is expected to start his duties immediately, with the Mountaineers preparing for the upcoming preseason.
