Amber Alert Issued for Sisters Taken by Father Who Allegedly Killed Their Mother

An Amber Alert has been issued for two young sisters who were taken by their father following a tragic incident in Hanford, California, in which their mother was found fatally shot. The victims, identified as 2-year-old Jaya and 5-year-old Lyla, were last seen with their father, 30-year-old Michael E. Casares. Authorities believe he fled to Mexico with the girls after the incident that occurred on Monday, November 6, 2023. Hanford police initially discovered the mother, 30-year-old Jessica Casares, with gunshot wounds in a vehicle at an apartment complex. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots around 2:30 p.m. on the same day. The police are actively searching for Casares and the two girls, urging anyone with information to come forward. Kings County Sheriff’s Office officials stated, “We want to get these girls back to safety, and we are asking for the public’s help.” The incident has left the community reeling and on high alert as parents and residents are concerned for the wellbeing of the young girls.
