Erie County Schools Closed Due to Weather Conditions

Erie County has announced the closure of public schools due to inclement weather conditions. On December 6, 2024, all Erie public schools will remain closed as heavy snowfall is expected to impact travel and safety across the region. According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning has been issued, predicting up to 10 inches of snow and strong winds, making road travel hazardous. Erie School District Superintendent Dr. Brian Polito stated, “The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we are making this decision out of an abundance of caution.” In addition, several other school districts in the surrounding areas have also confirmed that they will follow suit and remain closed. The Erie County School District called for parents and guardians to keep an eye on the weather reports and remain safe during this period. This winter storm comes in the wake of a challenging weather season, with areas already experiencing several snowfalls in recent weeks. As the winter progresses, officials are urging community members to prepare for more potential disruptions to school schedules and local travel.
