The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team clinched their first-ever NCAA tournament berth after defeating the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the Southern Conference (SoCon) title game held on March 8, 2025. The Final score was 58-49 in favor of the Spartans, a momentous victory that marked a significant achievement in the program’s history. The historic game took place at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Senior guard Kendra Timmon played a pivotal role in the championship win, contributing 20 points and controlling the pace of the game with her exceptional play. Post-game, she expressed her emotions: “I am so proud of my team and what we have accomplished this season. We’ve worked hard, and this is a dream come true!” This victory also marks the end of a long drought for the UNCG women’s basketball program, which had not made it to the NCAA tournament since its inception. On the other hand, the Chattanooga team, which entered the game with high hopes, fell short despite a strong effort from their star forward, who had 18 points and 10 rebounds.
