To facilitate the festivities and ensure public safety, a number of streets and highway ramps will be temporarily closed. Key closures include the entire stretch of Russell Avenue from Broadway to 7th Street, which will be closed from Friday, February 9, at 6 a.m. until Sunday, February 11, at 8 p.m. In addition, North 7th Street will be inaccessible from the I-44 exit heading towards Broadway as preparations ramp up to accommodate the expected influx of revelers.
The popular Purina Pet Parade, one of the highlights of the Mardi Gras celebration, will take place the Sunday before the main parade, featuring pets in costumes and live entertainment. It has become a beloved event, showcasing community spirit and local pride.
