Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Scheduled for December 4, 2024

The iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is set to take place on December 4, 2024, marking a beloved holiday tradition in New York City. The event will be broadcasted live on NBC from 8 to 10 p.m. EST. This year, the towering Norway Spruce, which stands at 79 feet tall and weighs approximately 12 tons, will be adorned with 50,000 multicolored LED lights that light up its branches, complemented by a stunning 900-pound star at the top.

“This tree continues to be a beacon of hope and joy, especially in challenging times,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams during the announcement of the lighting. The tree, delivered from Orange County, New York, showcases the natural beauty of the season and has become a centerpiece for Christmas celebrations in the city.

Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the decorations and the festive atmosphere surrounding Rockefeller Center starting in late November. Local restaurants and shops will offer special holiday promotions in conjunction with the ceremony. Furthermore, NBC is planning various entertainment segments for the live telecast, including performances from top artists, although the lineup has yet to be announced.

The tradition of lighting the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center dates back to 1933, with each year’s event drawing thousands to witness the festive display in person, while millions more tune in on television. This year’s tree will remain on display until January 7, 2025, ensuring that all can partake in this cherished holiday experience.
