In a bizarre incident in California, a routine traffic stop took an unexpected turn when officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) discovered that the driver of a luxury Rolls-Royce Ghost, identified as 41-year-old Jeremy James Decker, was allegedly intoxicated and accompanied by a spider monkey. The stop occurred after witnesses reported the vehicle swerving on Highway 101 near Santa Maria on September 12. Upon pulling over the Rolls-Royce, officers noted that Decker appeared to be under the influence and failed a field sobriety test. In an unusual twist, officers found a spider monkey in the passenger seat. According to a CHP news release, the monkey was taken into custody by Animal Services, and the incident raised questions about the legality of keeping such exotic pets. Decker faces DUI charges and was subsequently jailed on a bail of $100,000. This incident highlights issues regarding roadside sobriety tests as well as regulations surrounding exotic animal ownership in California.
