The city of Boise is gearing up for the 12th Annual Idaho Potato Drop set to take place on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2023. The event will kick off at 6 p.m. in Downtown Boise, offering a series of festivities leading up to the countdown to midnight. According to the organizers, hundreds of potato-themed activities will appeal to attendees of all ages. This year, the giant potato, weighing in at over 1,000 pounds, will descend from a tower at the stroke of midnight, marking the start of 2024.
Mayor Lauren McLean encouraged residents to embrace Idaho’s agricultural heritage by stating, “Here in Idaho, we love to celebrate our unique food culture, and the potato drop is a fun way to do just that!” In addition to the iconic potato drop, the event will feature live music, food vendors, and family-friendly activities, ensuring a full night of entertainment.
“This is more than just a countdown; it’s a celebration of our community, our farmers, and our spirit!” exclaimed event coordinator Lisa Smith.
