In a tense incident at Katy Mills Mall in Texas, a suspect has been charged with felony aggravated robbery after police responded to reports of an armed man threatening individuals on the mall premises. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old James Ray Givens of Houston, was arrested on October 19, 2023. The authorities were alerted to a robbery in progress at approximately 4:45 PM. Reports indicated that Givens was brandishing a firearm while demanding valuables from mall visitors. Officers quickly arrived and confronted the suspect, leading to his apprehension in the parking lot at 4:54 PM, just nine minutes after the initial call. The police confirmed that they recovered a firearm from Givens during the arrest. No injuries were reported, and no shots were fired throughout the entire incident. Randall Perry, the Police Chief of the Katy Police Department, stated, “This was a rapid response by our officers that likely prevented any injuries or further escalation of the situation.” Givens is currently facing several charges, including aggravated robbery, and is being held at the Harris County Jail with a bond set at $100,000.
