Winter Weather Advisory Issued Across Michigan as Snow, Sleet, and Freezing Rain Expected

A winter weather advisory has been announced for most of Lower Michigan as residents prepare for a significant winter storm that will bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The advisory, active from Monday, December 24, 2024, warns of slippery travel conditions and potential disruptions. Peter A. Wozniak, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, stated, “The storm is expected to bring at least 1 to 3 inches of snow in most regions, particularly in Metro Detroit and the western suburbs.” In addition to snow accumulation, sleet and freezing rain could lead to hazardous road conditions, especially in areas north and west of Detroit where forecasts predict an ice accumulation of up to a quarter of an inch. However, according to the advisory, counties such as Mackinac, Chippewa, and Luce will avoid the worst of the storm, with only minor snowfall expected. Travelers are advised to prepare for delays and to use caution while on the roads. The weather conditions will notably impact holiday travel plans, leading some to consider alternate arrangements.
