Dennis Hernandez Pleads Guilty to Threats Against UConn

Dennis Hernandez, the brother of late NFL player Aaron Hernandez, has pleaded guilty to making threats to carry out a shooting at the University of Connecticut (UConn). The 30-year-old entered his plea in Hartford federal court, admitting to the charges of making interstate transmission of a threat to injure another person, which can carry a sentence of up to five years in prison. U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny has scheduled sentencing for March 12, 2024. According to authorities, Dennis Hernandez made threats via social media targeting students, referencing an intention to conduct a mass shooting. Assistant U.S. Attorney John D. McGowan indicated that Dennis had expressed anger about UConn and made these threats after a confrontation at the university. “It was a moment of heat of the moment, but we take it very seriously,” McGowan stated. Following the threats, law enforcement responded promptly, stating they would not take such comments lightly, particularly in light of the sensitive public discourse surrounding school safety. The family of Aaron Hernandez, who took his own life in 2017 while serving a life sentence for murder, has time and again been in the public eye, and this incident has reignited discussions about mental health and accountability.
