Illinois American Water Announces Rate Increases for Wastewater Treatment Projects

Illinois American Water is set to increase water rates in Sterling to fund essential wastewater treatment projects. This decision aims to enhance the city’s infrastructure and environmental sustainability. The new rate structure is designed to support ongoing improvements at the Sterling Water Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Treatment Facility, ensuring that the local community receives safe and reliable water services. The proposed adjustments will result in an estimated increase of 10% on average for residential customers. In a statement, Illinois American Water’s director of rates and regulatory affairs, Mike Mace, emphasized the necessity of these upgrades, saying, “Investing in our water infrastructure is crucial to supporting the health and safety of our communities.” Residents are expected to see these changes reflected in their bills starting in early 2025. The increase comes amid ongoing discussions about water quality and environmental management across the state. Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, American Water’s Charitable Foundation awarded a $25,000 strategic impact grant to York County Veterans Outreach, focusing on enhancing support services for local veterans. This initiative is part of a broader effort by American Water to give back to the communities they serve. In 2024 alone, the American Water Charitable Foundation donated over $5 million to various programs, reflecting a commitment to social impact and sustainability. American Water’s President and CEO, Susan Hardwick, stated, “We are proud to support organizations that serve our veterans and enhance community resilience. It’s our responsibility to invest in the communities we serve, especially those who have sacrificed for our country.”
